DS90UB960-Q1: Power Consumption Use Cases

Part Number: DS90UB960-Q1

Hi Team,

Could I get your help with some power consumption questions for the 960?

I'm looking at the 960 datasheet page 9 row IDDT2.

1. In CSI-2 TX=2x mode, Why are the max currents for the 1V8 rail with line rate 1.664Gbps lower than when the line rate is 823Mbps? My understanding is that the current consumption at higher rates?

2. How thermal parameters differ in different operating modes(CSI/RAW)

Thanks!

David

  • Hi David,

    1) I checked through all the raw data and it confirms that these are indeed the correct values. Now, I'm not sure at the moment as to why it increases, perhaps internally it causes an increase in power consumption from vdd18 but I have to dig a little deeper, so I'll update you once I find out.

    2) What do you mean exactly? Like the performance in different modes? We test all our parts over temperature in these different modes to ensure that they can function properly. In general, I'd expect more jitter on the system if the temperature changes.

  • Hi Mandeep,

    1.  I dug around a little bit and found the following comment "953 runs at a fixed speed. Like an Ethernet link, it sends CSI-2 packets across the cable immediately after they arrive and fills the rest of the bandwidth with idles frames." Perhaps this can explain why the power consumption is close?

    2. Thanks, let me dig into this more and I'll start a new thread with more of the requirements

    Thanks for the help!

    David

  • Hi David,

At a high level, you are correct. It has to do with the non-high speed portion of the CSI frames. When you start to run at lower speeds, it ends up consuming more power.
