TPS65987D: 5V for VCONN Necessary for 3A+ source/sink?

Part Number: TPS65987D

Hello,

Is a 5V supply required for VCONN when configuring for greater than 3A source/sink? Or is VCONN power only required when using an active cable?

Thanks!

Chris

  • Hi Chris,

A 5V supply on VCONN is required when using an Active Cable or an E-marked cable. Keep in mind that you will need to use a 5A cable to provide more than 3A of current. This would also require 5V on VCONN to be able to power the cable and have the TPS65987D read the capabilities of the cable.

    Thanks,
    Eric
