DS110DF111: TI Retimer Support on SyncE

Part Number: DS110DF111
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK10031,

Hello,

We use TI MIMO SerDes (TLK10031), which uses as 10G user interface (SFP port) and supports SyncE, when the line-side is connected to SFP connector, with TI retimer in the middle.

Due to long MIMO lines, we are using TI Retimer.

My question is - Will the retimer impair our ability to use the SyncE?

Best regards,

Avihay.

  • Hello,

An engineer has been assigned but response may be delayed due to the holidays.

  • Greetings Avihay,

When using TLK10031, is it being used in 10G KR mode or as a 4:1 serializer/deserializer mode? It seems - based on your description - it is being used as a 4:1 serializer/deserializer. If this is the case, then DS110DF111 CTLE settings can support up to 34dB loss at nyquist. In this case, please check insertion loss of MIMO media to make sure it has less than 34dB loss.

Also, please note DS110DF111 default rate locks to 9.8304Gbps data rate. Therefore you need to have SMBus interface to set rate/sub-rate table to enable lock to 10.3125Gbps.

  • Hello Nasser,

Actually I'm using TLK10031 to convert XAUI (on low-speed side) to XFI (on high-speed side), but I'm asking about the DS110DF111 Retimer -

I wanted to know if this Retimer will interfere the SyncE (sourced from TLK10031), on 10 Gbps traffic?

    Best regards,

    Avihay.

  • Hi Avihay,

DS110DF111 would not interfere with 10GbE data stream transmitted from TLK10031 device. Please note, DS110DF111 in default mode, is set to lock or retime 9.8304Gbps data rate. You need to change rate/sub-rate table - as noted in the data sheet - to lock to 10.3125Gbps data rate.
