PCA9306: To know the purpose of PCA9306 Switch Configuration and Translation Configuration

Part Number: PCA9306

Hi Expert,

The PCA9306 is capable for switch Configuration and translation Configuration according to DS addressed.

Pls guide us why need to have two configurations on PCA9306.

Thanks

  • Hey Eric,

The device is versatile and offers multiple ways to use it. I provided several examples of when you may want to use the device as a switch in the datasheet already.

Level translation is pretty straight forward as you want to use the device to get the voltages to the correct voltage levels in order to prevent any backbiasing/damage to devices that operate at a lower digital logic.

Ultimately the user would use the device in one of the two modes depending on the application.

  • Hi Bobby,

    Thanks.

We get the following question need your comment:

Condition 1)VREF1=3.3V , (EN pin and VREF2 are shorted together),VREF2=3.3V

Seems this is the Switch Configuration. Is it ok to function?

Condition 2)VREF1=3.3V , (EN pin and VREF2 are shorted together),VREF2=3.3V.And system might also pull the SCL2/SDA2 to 5V.

Is it ok for to function?

[Bobby] Yes, this should be fine.

Condition 2)VREF1=3.3V , (EN pin and VREF2 are shorted together),VREF2=3.3V.And system might also pull the SCL2/SDA2 to 5V.

[Bobby] The device should still work under this condition as well.

  • Hi Bobby,

Thanks for your reply. We get further question from the customer:

    1)VREF1=3.3V , (EN pin and VREF2 are shorted together),VREF2=3.3V

    2)VREF1=3.3V , (EN pin and VREF2 are shorted together),VREF2=5V

Pls guide us what is different performance between VREF2=3.3V and VREF2=5V.

    Thanks.

[Bobby] I added a section in the datasheet to discuss this here:

None of this has a 'huge' affect when used in an I2C frequency below 400kHz since prop delay differences are likely to be in the double digit nanosecond range.

    Thanks.
