SN65HVD06: Can I connect A pin of one SN65HVD06 to B pin of another SN65HVD06?

Hi Expert,

I am using SN65HVD06, I want to confirm if I can cross connect the RS485 bus pin(A and B pin of SN65HVD06)?

For example, there are two SN65HVD06 devices in my system, can I connect A pin of one SN65HVD06 to B pin of another SN65HVD06? See below connection.

    Hi Rachel,

    Electrically it is fine to connect the devices in this way. The Maximum differential output voltage for SN65HVD06's driver is Vcc and the receiver can tolerate +-12V differentials. However, the data on the R pins would be inverted in this configuration and may need to be corrected for with other circuitry or programming. Similarly, the crossed transceiver will drive an inverted signal onto the bus. 

    You may consider a device which features polarity correction for this application such as THVD1505. This device is typically used for hot-insertion applications to correct for swapped A-B inputs and may also be useful in your application.
