DP83849I: Schematic review support and DTSI changes need for linux kernel

Part Number: DP83849I

Hello,

We are using DP83849I as our PHY. It will be great if you could review the schematic attached. Adding to this, what all changes need to be implemented for adding DP83849I in dtsi for linux ?

Note: we are doing a project for TI

Thanks

  • Hello Talents,

Please refer to https://www.ti.com/lit/an/snla079d/snla079d.pdf, this app note discusses the schematics and layout.

The linux driver was designed to be used for DP83848, DP83849, and DP836XX family of devices. There shouldn’t be any device tree changes required.

It looks like Brian has also reached out to us offline.

    Thanks,

    Vibhu

  • Talents,

Here is the schematic review feedback:

I have the following comments for the schematic review:

      • MDIO: pull-up is recommended to be 1.5k
      • MDC: Remove pull-up, no pull- needed for this pin
      • Strap resistors: Use 2.2k (1% tolerance)
      • Power supply decoupling
        • Recommended is a 10uF and 0.1uF with the smaller capacitor closest to PHY. Current set up should be ok, but consider changing one of the 0.1uF to 10uF if there are issues.
        • Optional: include a 0 ohm resistor in series to place a ferrite bead if necessary for signal integrity.
        • TPI Network: Please review section 5.1, specifically Figure 12 of the datasheet.

I’m not seeing a part number for the clock, so please check that it is within spec as described by Table 14. You may also use the Demo Board and app note linked below for reference.

I believe your question about the linux driver has already been answered. To reiterate, the linux driver was designed to be used for DP83848, DP83849, and DP836XX family of devices. There shouldn’t be any device tree changes required.

Let me know if you have any additional concerns.
