DP83822I: Is MII interface compatible with RMII interface

Hi team,

My customer was using DP83822I with MII interface. But now, they want to change the MII interface to RMII interface. So can they keep the MII interface wire connection unchanged and just configure the PHY to RMII mode? In other words, is MII interface compatible with RMII interface in the hardware connection? Thanks.

    Hi Wayne,

    There are some differences in connections between MII and RMII mode. In RMII slave mode, both the PHY and the MAC need a 50 MHz clock. In RMII master mode, the PHY needs a 25 MHz input clock, and RXD3 functions as the reference clock to the MAC. Please review sections 6 and 8.4.1 for more details. Figures 24-26 show a block diagrams of the connections.
