SN65DP159: Mode setting

Part Number: SN65DP159

I would like to ask a question for SN65DP159RSB.

I am setting SN65DP159RSB to Pin-strap mode and am using it as a Source device.

For HDMI_SEL setting, it is set to Low (HDMI mode).

In this case, even if SN65DP159RSB is connected to DVI Sink device by using conversion cable,

it is impossible to change HDMI_SEL pin to High(DVI mode).

I think there is no problem. However, just in case, I would like to confirm about above usage.

Best regards,

  • I am not sure if I correctly understand your question.

    HDMI_SEL pin is set either high (DVI) or low (HDMI) at the power up to properly configure the DP159.

    Thanks

    David

  • As I told you earlier, I am setting SN65DP159 to Pin-strap mode.

    And I am setting HDMI_SEL to Low(HDMI mode).

    Normally SN65DP159 would be tied to HDMI Sink device. – Case.A

    However, it might be tied to DVI Sink device. – Case.B

    <Case.A>

    SN65DP159 ---> (HDMI CN) ---> (HDMI Cable) ---> (HDMI CN) ---> HDMI Sink device

    <Case.B>

    SN65DP159 ---> (HDMI CN) ---> (HDMI to DVI Adaptor or Conversion Cable) ---> (DVI CN) ---> DVI Sink device

    For HDMI_SEL setting, can we use ”Low” setting on both of Case?

    Best regards,

  • DVI vs HDMI is just the adapter ID. I see no risk sending HDMI when I2C_EN is low.

    But when HDMI_SEL is set to DVI, the source will likely not enable audio and the source may also limit the datarate to 1080p.

    Thanks

    David
