DP83822I: Question about the interface between MAC and DP83822I

Part Number: DP83822I

Hi team,

My customer is considering using DP83822I. Due to limited I/O port on the MCU side, customer has to configure DP83822I to RMII master mode to save  MCU I/O resource. And the phsical connection between MCU's MAC and  DP8322I is also in RMII master mode. However, the MCU's MAC can only support MII or RGMII mode. So I just want to check with you if it is workable when MAC is in MII/RGMII mode while DP83822I and the phsical connection is in RMII mode? Thanks.

Best regards,

Wayne

  • Hi Wayne,

No this is not possible, please review Section 8.4 of the datasheet, particularly Figures 24-27 for the signals sent between the PHY and the MAC for MII/RMII/RGMII. To name a few requirements, in RMII mode, TX_D[3:2] are unused. TX_D[3:2] are required to be inputs to the PHY in MII and RGMII mode. More info on specific pin requirements can be found in Section 6.

    Thank you,

    Nikhil
