TPS65987D: communication to BQ25703 (based on TIDA-01515)

Hello,

I have a customer who is using the TIDA01515 as a baseline for their design. They are suing the TPS65987D instead but still using the BQ4050 and BQ25703.

They've got the BQ4050 working and communicating with the TPS65987DDHRSHR using the 'TPS65981_2_6_7_8 Application Customization 5.13' tool (both through I2C debug and programming the Flash through SPI).

So far they've just been using the standard settings built into the 'TPS65981_2_6_7_8 Application Customization 5.13' tool for TPS65987DDH.

They don't see any activity (ie the transistors aren't turning ON) on the BQ25703ARSN and they are wondering if the settings in the 'TPS65981_2_6_7_8 Application Customization 5.13' tool include features to talk to the BQ25703ARSN?

They don't see settings in there regarding the BQ25703ARSN so it makes me wonder if I need a special setup to allow the TPS65987DDHRSHR to control the BQ25703ARSN?

I don't see any software for the TIDA-01515 to address this.

Yes, PD controller can be configured to talk to BQ25703ARSN. Please find details in application note https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slvae18/slvae18.pdf

I hope PD controller has I2C connection to BQ25703ARSN.

We've have it mostly working, but my customer is still having the issue with reading the I2C slave address back off the device. They have been programming the device through I2C (so RAM only), maybe this leads to some sort of limitation, for example does the device need a hard reset before it tries to communicate to the I2C slave?

"When I enter any address in the 'Common Settings' tab and then > 'Export Settings to Device (RAM only)' and then I enter DEBUG mode to read the device most settings seem to update correctly, however the I2C slave addresses all get read as 0x0?"

Hi Nick,

Did the PD controller jump to APP mode after the FW update over I2C? No Hard reset is required after FW update.
