P82B96: Do you have a device for Automotive?

Part Number: P82B96

Hi,

I would like to ask you a question about P82B96.

My customer would like to use P82B96 with automotive specification(temp : -40℃~+125℃).

Do you have a such kind of device?

If you do not have, will you propose another solution like P82B96?

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards,

  • Hey Takumi-san,

Can you provide more information on what the customer is trying to do and the application?

I believe our only Q1 I2C buffer is the TCA9517Q1 which supports the temperature range you are asking about but the driver is not as strong as the P82B96. I assume if you are asking about P82B96 then you are looking to buffer long cables. Is this correct? If so, what is the target frequency and cable distance (and kind of cable if you know)?

    Thanks,

    -Bobby

  • Hi Bobby-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

Let me answer your quesitons as below.

Application : Power meter, I2C is used as interface between "sensor" and "power meter".

    Length : 30m cable

Temp range : -40 degree to +125 degree

Vcc : 5V (both sensor and power meter)

Target frequency and kind of cable are unknown, sorry..

I would be very happy if you tell me any idea to propose.

    Thank you and Best Regards,

  • Bobby-san,

I have got more information from the customer as below.

    Length : 40m(max)

    Frequency : 50KHz

cable : composite wire (like below image)

    Thanks for your kindness.

    Best Regards,

  • Hey Takumi,

Apologies for the delayed response, I was out of the office for sometime last week.

40m is a bit too far for our TCA9517Q1 device to support unless you were to stack multiple of them in series.

Other than this buffer, we do not have another buffer that can do this (and is automotive qualified).

We do have a TI Design for An i2c to CAN solution but the P82B96 is used for it and is not automotive qualified as you can see.

  • Hey Takumi,

I also wanted to follow up with a question. You mentioned that the application is a power meter. Do you NEED automotive qualification or do you just need the temperature range to be -40 to 125C instead?

    -Bobby

  • Hi Bobby-san,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I understood that TI does not have the device which meets the requirement.

About your question, I'm not sure but the customer seems to need only temperature range.

Do you plan to develop P82B96 with -40 to +125C?

    Best Regards,

  • Hey Takumi-san,

As of right now, we do not have plans to do a temperature extension for P82B96.

    Thanks,

    -Bobby

  • Bobby-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I understood.
