RS422 to RS485

Hello.

We need to connect  MCU that have only RS422 4 wire full duplex interface to sensor that has only 2 wire RS485 half duplex interface.

I know that by using two converters , one from RS422 to serial TTL and the second from serial TTL to RS485 , we could implement that. We need to use the RX\TX enable pin on the RS485 to switch from transmit to receive mode.

I'm looking for application guide for that.

Please advise,

Gil.

  • Gil,

I think your solution is straightforward and should work fine. You can refer to this TI design with the similar function.

    www.ti.com/.../TIDA-01365

However, I'm not sure if you could just connect the full duplex TX and RX pair together to communicate with the 2 wire half duplex side, provided that the full-duplex interface does not transmit and receive simultaneously.

BTW, RS-422 and RS-485 are compatible that some people use the devices interchangeably.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

    Regards,

    Hao
