DP83822I: Analog Loopback

Part Number: DP83822I

Hi,

From the document "DP83822 IEEE 802.3u Compliance and Debug" I can see that for the Analog Loopback test of the DP83822I I need two termination resistors at the RJ45 connector.
Is it true that this test also tests the magnetics and the plug connections? Can I be shure that if this test is running ok that everything with the magnetics and connector is ok?

Thanks and best regards,

Patrick

  • Hello Patrick,

As the document states "Analog loopback is typically used to identify issues with improper MDI termination and reference clock violations." If you take a look at "Figure 2. Loopback Test Modes" you will see the path, essentially analog loopback tests the PHY from the MAC side to the AFE. If the analog loopback test passes but there are issues with the PHY you've narrowed down the problem to be at the MDI/magnetics/connector side or with the reference clock.

    Thanks,

    Vibhu
