TLK2711-SP: PRBS test mode

Part Number: TLK2711-SP

When PRBS test mode is enabled, are the 8b/10b encoder (TX) and decoder (RX) circuit blocks disabled? .. so that single-ended switching noise from these circuit blocks will be turned-OFF .. OR are these blocks still turned-ON so that switching noise on power and ground rails from these blocks is present.

  • An engineer has been assigned to and will address this ticket.

    Thanks

    David

  • The encoding/decoding blocks would still be powered on.

  • OK .. the encoding / decoding blocks are still powered ON.

Additionally, are these blocks still enabled .. such that these blocks will be toggling and generating single ended switching transients .. OR are these blocks disabled .. such that no such toggling will be present.

Specifically, I want to understand if the digital switching noise is significantly reduced during PRBS test mode .. due to the above blocks being disabled.  If PRBS test mode disables these blocks, then characterization of TX output jitter and RX jitter tolerance with PRBS test mode enabled .. may result in better performance than for standard operation?

    Thank you.

    • The noise in the high-speed datapath will not be reduced in PRBS mode. Jitter test results while operating in PRBS mode should still be representative of actual performance
