DP83826E: The difference between DP83826E and DP83822

Part Number: DP83826E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83826I

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask DP83826E?

Thank you for post about DP83826E on following forum.
https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/138/t/869803?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=faq%3Atrue

What is the difference between DP83826E and DP83822 mainly?

We assume that both of PHYs are fitable for industral etherphy.
Is DP83826E good for EtherCat, right?

<DP83826E good points compared with DP83822>
-Low latency
-IEC 61000-4-4 EFT: ±4 kV @ 5 kHz, 100 kHz
-Integrated MDI Terminations
-Low power

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Hirotaka,

DP83826 and DP83822 are different design but both are targeted for industrial applications. Some of the differences are temperature grade, ESD, and Fiber Ethernet support. DP83826 was recently released and we are still working on getting it on the approved list for EtherCAT. However, in our internal testing we have seen that it meets the EtherCat requirements.

    Thank you for your reply.

We got that both of them are targeted for industrial applications.
Especially, what kind of industrial applications is DP83826E used for?

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi team

If you have some update for our last reply, could you let us know?

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Matsumoto-san,

We have example applications in the datasheet. They can be used in industrial applications like,

    • Factory automation, robotics and motion control
    • Motor drives
    • Grid infrastructure
    • Building automation
    • Industrial Ethernet fieldbus

    Thank you for your reply.

Could you let us know how to use different these devices depending on the situation?
Because, DP83826 is th similar with DP83822.
Both are used for indutrial applications.
So, we would like to know why DP83826 is developed.

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Matsumoto-san,

The decision of which device to use will depend on multiple factors based on customer project requirements. The most important difference are the ones that I highlighted above: Temperature grade, Fiber Support, ESD rating, and MDI driver architecture (current mode or voltage mode). DP83822 family supports Fiber ethernet, has high ESD rating, and goes up-to 125C. However, not all customer projects require such high performance. There will be projects where the requirements are relaxed. In such cases, DP83826 can be used. The details for both the PHYs are included in the datasheet. Please note that even though certain specifications are relaxed for DP83826I, it is still able to meet Industrial requirements like 105C temperature, EMC testing, ESD, MII support etc.
