Team,

I am trying to determine if TI’s TUSB3410 USB to Serial Port Controller supports USB1.1 or not.  The datasheet only makes reference to USB2.0 support but does not mention anything concerning USB1.1.   Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Enrique,

What do you mean by  "supporting USB 1.1"?    USB 1.1 is a specification, not a specific function.  The TUSB3410 supports FS signaling, is that what is being asked?  USB 1.1 functionality is a subset of USB 2.0 functionality.

    Regards,

    Julie Nirchi

  • To be technically correct, the USB 1.1 specification ceased to exist when the USB 2.0 specification was released and superseded it.

The USB 1.1 specification defined two speed nodes:  USB Low–speed (1.5 Mbps) and USB Full–speed (12 Mbps).

These two speeds were carried forward AS IS without change into the USB 2.0 Specification and a third speed node was added, USB High–speed at 480 Mbps.

The USB Implementers Forum guidelines for nomenclature are to refer to items by the max bit transfer speed supported, in the case of the TUSB3410 that would be USB Full–speed.

  • Thank  you Julie and Dan.  You've both answered my questions.  This means I should not have any troubles  using the TUSB3410UART eval kit when plugged into  a USB1.1 legacy port.
