TCA9539: Continuous current through GND

Part Number: TCA9539
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA6416A

Hi team,

Could you tell me why Continuous current through GND of TCA9539 is -250mA ? (Why negative)

Other device such as TCA6416A is mentioned 200mA.

The customer would like to decide the power supply current. So Please give your advice.

Regards,

Yoshi

  • Hello Yoshi-san,

I understand the confusion.  In both cases the current would be flowing out of the ground pin of the IC.  In TCA9539 a standard convention for current specifications was followed in which the current was defined as "into" the pin (meaning a negative polarity would indicate an output current).  It looks like TCA6416A did not follow the same convention, though, and just defines the magnitude of the current.
