To whom it may concern,

I recently purchased a hitech global FMC USB development board which I'm interfacing with a Cyclone 10 GX development board via the FMC connector. The hitech global FMC USB board has a two TI TUSB1310A chips on it but unfortunately, I'm only able to partially interface with one of the two USB 3.0 transceiver chips. The ULPI side of the chip I'm able to interface with could not be fully mapped via the FMC connector so, I'm not able to exercise the USB 2.0 (ULPI) functionality. Since I'm really not interested in the USB 2.0 functionality, I'm fine with that. However, four of the ULPI data pins are also part of the strapping option pins (namely ULPI data bits 4,5,6 and 7), if ULPI data bit 7 is left floating, can that cause the transceiver to remain in isolation mode and not be able to receive or transmit data packets at all?

Hi Brian,

Yes, pin N6 which is the ULPI data bit 7 was left floating because the FMC interfacing connector on the Cyclone 10 GX dev board has no pull ups or pull downs for all the unmapped pins corresponding to the ULPI USB 2.0 PHY. Are you 100% certain this is likely the reason as to why I'm unable to receive or transmit data packets?

Hi Brian,

Did you mean to say figure 4-1 (Power up and reset timing)?

If so, that figure shows that the strapping pins are latched in on reset de-assertion only...and after reset the strap pins behave like regular I/O pins...

so by statically pulling down pins N6 (ULPI data bit 7) and P6 (ULPI data bit 6) to digital ground, and pulling up pins N7 (ULPI data bit 5) and P7 (ULPI data bit 4) to 1.8V, the transceiver's PIPE PHY should then be able to receive and transmit data packets?

this device has PLL locking issue and NRND. We are not recommend for new design.

Hi Brian,

I understand the device is not recommended for new designs. The reason why I'm posting this is because I purchased a Hitech Global FMC USB3 board which has the TI TUSB1310A transceiver in it and I need assistance with the strapping pins...

By statically pulling down pins N6 (ULPI data bit 7) and P6 (ULPI data bit 6) to digital ground, and pulling up pins N7 (ULPI data bit 5) and P7 (ULPI data bit 4) to 1.8V, the transceiver's PIPE PHY should then be able to receive and transmit data packets, correct?

if just strapping issue, you are right. also make sure power up sequence is correct.
