DS90UH948-Q1: How to minimize PCB related losses

Part Number: DS90UH948-Q1

Hello team,

Hope you are doing well. When you get a chance would you mind helping with below customer question:

Application: SOC-> FPD Serializer->LVDS Connector->LVDS cable->USB connector->Deserialszer->Panel

What are the risks of running 100 ohm LVDS through an 85 ohm USB connector?

What can we do on the display PCB side to minimize refections, loss and EMI?

  • Hi Randhir,

    Between the transition of 100ohm LVDS cable and the 85ohm USB connector, you will have impedance mismatch which will affect the signal quality.

    Do you know at what line rate they will be running the system at?

  • Hi Randhir,

    Most of our devices are designed 100Ω impedance. We recommended the tolerance at least within 5 to 10% in order to maintain good RL and IL. May I know why USB connector? For panel display, we normally recommend certain type of connectors can be used for display. What is the end application?

    There are many way to prevent reflections and EMI. Reflection can be occurred if you are using through-hole connector and vias if you are not carefully layout your design as well as your placement and routing. EMI can be buried inside the inner layer using stripline method to avoid noise coupling from the neighbor components.

    If you have your design done, you are welcome to send us the design file so that we can help you reviewing it and provide feedbacks.

    Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions.

    Aaron
