PCA9544A: Can I connect thermal pad to ground (VQFN)?

Part Number: PCA9544A

Can't find information about electrical connection to thermal pad (VQFN).

Can I connect it to ground ? Should I ?

Best regards

Adam Górski

  • Hey Adam,

You can connect the thermal pad to GND if you would like. This device is typically not used with large currents (our Ron is also low) so the power dissipation is low, meaning you wouldn't expect it to heat up much. Leaving it unconnected is also okay to do.

    Thanks,

    -Bobby

  • Hey Bobby,

That was question more about internal electrical connection than thermal flow.

Can you confirm that thermal pad is not connected internally ( electricall meaning ) or internal connections allows to connect it to ground ?

Please confirm and I will close my issue as resolved.

    Best regards

    Adam Górski

  • Hey Adam,

The thermal pad is not electrically connected to the device, it is solely there for heat dissipation (GND layer is typically large so this is why we suggest a connection to GND).

    Thanks,
