TUSB564: The power consumption of TUSB564 in different situation

Part Number: TUSB564

Hi team,

My customer  would like to consult with you about the power consumption of TUSB564 in different situation.

The customer's product is a monitor.

  • PC enters sleep mode (turn off the display monitor): Whether the power consumption of TUSB564 will be decreased when entering into snoop mode if the system sustain at DP alt mode ? How much is the power consumption?
  • PC enters sleep mode (turn off the display monitor): Whether the power consumption of TUSB564 will be decreased without any dp and usb signal pass through if the system sustain at DP alt mode ? How much is the power consumption?

Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Feng,

TUSB564 power consumption will scale with the number of active DP lanes when in snoop mode. In a 4 lane DP Atl mode case the power consumption will be 660 mW as listed in the datasheet.

In the second case, the power consumption depends on what TUSB564 mode is active. If in USB mode TUSB564 will enter lower power state and the power consumption will be 2.5 mW as listed in datasheet. If in DP + USB Mode the power consumption will be as listed in the datasheet. If in DP mode the power consumption will scale with the number of lanes active or left enabled even if no signal is present.

Power consumption is listed under section 6.5 ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS in the  datasheet.

  • Hi Malik,

Understand. Customer would like to know more about first case.

If  DP lanes is not active (there is no DP signal from NB) when in snoop mode but it still maintain at DP alt mode, whether the power consumption will be decreased or not. Thanks.

  • Hi Feng,

If there is no signal from the NB and the snoop feature is enabled the DP TX should turn off all lanes over AUX reducing he power consumption of TUSB564. In this case DP link goes to a lower power mode, assuming Type-C is still connected.

  • Hi Malik,

Customer would like to know a roughly power consumption of low power mode since they have power saving concern with the system.

Is it the same as PCC-NCUSB mode (2.5mW) which is shown in section 6.5 of datasheet? Thanks.

  • Hi.

The power consumption of TUSB564 in this case will be closer to the shutdown power consumption.
