DS90UB941AS-Q1: serialization / deserialization of MIPI DSI signal

Part Number: DS90UB941AS-Q1

Hello to all,

Currently I am working with a display and a SoC boad. Both uses the MIPI DSI interface. However, They must be separated about 70 cm.

I have found that the DS90UB941AS-Q1 is a serializer from DSI to FPD-LINK III. Nevertheless, there is no deserializer to convert from FPD-LINK III to MIPI DSI.

How may I connect the SoC board (transmiter) to the display (receiver) using the MIPI-DSI protocol with a cable of  almost 1 meter? May you recommend any IC?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

  • Hello,

    We do not have a solution for deserializing to DSI as you say. The only solution I could suggest would be to deserialize to LVDS or parallel RGB and then convert to DSI with another device. TI does not currently have such a solution, however this LVDS->DSI or RGB->DSI conversion can be done with an FPGA like Lattice Crosslink.

  • Hello Casey,

    thank you for your response. I understand the solution that you propose. Anyway, I wonder if there is any IC or solution in order to reduce the number of lanes (the cables) between the transmitter and the receiver of the MIPI DSI signal.

    Ideally, I would like to have all the MIPI cables (the 4 differential lanes, the CLK, power and GND) from the transmitter. Then, convert it into one single cable (or only a couple of cables) and finally split up again into all MIPI DSI 4 lanes cables and connect it to the receiver.

    I hope you can help me.

    Best regards,

    Jeronimo

  • Hello Jeronimo,

    Right, so what I would suggest is something like this:

    DSI -> DS90UB941AS-Q1 -> Cable -> DS90UB92x-Q1 or DS90UB94x-Q1 deserializer -> RGB/LVDS/CSI-2 -> Converter device -> DSI

    Best Regards,
