Hello,

the goal our project is to use a smartphone (the galaxy A50) to be plugged (always) to our electronic board . The A50 as different behavior depend if is not connected or connected to a charger or to a PC.

When is not connected is behave as a source and DFP ( host) and control the HUB

When is connected to the power supply is behave as a sink and it steal a DFP (host) control the HUB; the charge is 3A under 5V

When is connected to a PC is behave as a sink and a UFP ( the hub swap the port upstream to downstream)

Today I manage the connect and not connect from the power supply , using DRP mode and the barrel jack detect to clear the dead battery flag.

But I don't know how to manage the PC connect and not connect, how I configure the TPS65987 to charge the A50 but with the capability of the source of the PC. And also to change DFP to UFP mode?

Do I need to use the external path ? how I can switch automatically to this configuration ?

Hi David,

This is my understanding of your project, correct me if I'm wrong.

Case 1: Phone connected to the board w/o adapter
Phone will become USB host for Hub, DFP and Src.

Case 2: Phone connected and Barrel Jack Adapter connects later.
Phone will continue operation in Case 1, but will switch to Snk.

Case 3: System in Case 2 and PC connects later.
Seeing contradictory statement in your post.
1. When is connected to a PC is behave as a sink and a UFP ( the hub swap the port upstream to downstream)
2. how I configure the TPS65987 to charge the A50 but with the capability of the source of the PC.

Please clarify case 3.

Hello,

I clarify :

When we connected the USB from the PC The A50 is UFP and sink ,The PC is source and DFP . The goal is to control the A50 from the PC.

More other I would like to use the PPHV2 as source for the barel jack and the PPHV1 as source for the Vusb from the PC.

For case 2 and 3 when I unplugged the PC or the barrel jack the TPS65987 must switch automatically to source and DFP . ( I manage this for the case 2 by using one GPIO with the Barrel Jack detection )

What is the expected source for cases 7 and 8?

What are the PDOs supported by Adapter? I assume PC is 5V only.

You need not to consider UFP/DFP transition for HUB port's role change(Upstream -> Downstream or vice versa) as it involves only USB2 communication.
