DP83TC811R-Q1: Connection

Dear PIC,

Our customer ask us the connection to the in-vehicle LAN network.

The plus and minus signals of the in-vehicle LAN are passed through a capacitor and It should be connected to TRD_P terminal (pin 12) and TRD_N (pin 13) of DP83TC811R.

However, it actually works even if the plus and minus signals of the in-vehicle LAN are reversed and connected.
Is it OK to recognize that it is because DP83TC811R-PHY has Polarity detection (function like Auto MDI / MDI X), and the polarity is automatically adjusted?

Hi Yusuke,

Yes you are correct, this device does have and auto-polarity detection and correction feature. You may refer to section 8.4.12.2 of the datasheet for more information about this feature.
