SN65HVD23: Driving Capability

Dear Team,

 

I have a question for CAN transceiver SN65HVD23 series.

In the datasheet, we can find the current is 17mA (max) for dominant/ recessive mode.

But we also find output driver current is near to 35mA (If Vin=3.3V)

 

So, how much current capacity should we reserve for robust CAN communication?

    Kevin,

    The power consumption of any CAN transceiver is specific to the application itself. If you go to this post, I've outlined how to calculate power consumption through a CAN transceiver given a few parameters that can be found in the datasheet, and ones that are specific to the application.
