Not having had the bandwidth yet to have read through and understand all of the TPS65987D & TPS65988 documentation, is it possible to make use of the IC as a simple on-off switch capable of handling bidirectional current flow of 5A at up to 20V? This is for a non-USB application with no CC signals, having no Type-C PD power negotiation. Are there "low level" control bits that would simply enable and disable the power path to turn on and off when commended to?
Hi Daniel Jackson,
No, its not possible.
If I answered your query, PLEASE select This resolved my issue to close this thread.

Prajit,
Please recommend if possible some other IC(s) that might be able to be used in my application.
Hello Daniel,
I have requested admin to assign this thread to the right team.
Thanks

Hi Daniel,
In our portfolio, we have the TPS66020, but is not bidirectional, The high voltage power path is only for sink applications.
I would recommend looking through the Power Switch portfolio to see if their is a suitable device for you. If you find one that meets your needs, you can post another question here on the forums tagging the power switch device, and the relevant experts will be able to help you.
