I would like to know whether the I2C ports at the DS90UB913A/DS90UB914A Serdes pair support burst transactions. I want to use this channel to send (once) a large amount of data and I have to know whether for each byte being sent I will have to start first with I2C device and register address.

Hi Yan,

The 913A and the 914A support incremental reads and writes, so that you do need to send the devices address and register address for every read and write transaction.

Thanks Michael, I just want to clarify as the answer is a bit confusing. If incremental write and read is supported, why I still need to send the addresses over again? I want to write an incremental burst, meaning send device and register address and then a chunk of data bytes, all in one transaction... Can I do this or not?

Hi Yan,

Yes you can send the devices address, then the starting register address and then send the data without having to send the register address in between.

For incremental reads please look at the following document: https://www.i2c-bus.org/fileadmin/ftp/i2c_bus_specification_1995.pdf in "Figure 14. Combined format" to read a large block of data.
