SN65DSI84: Can SN65DSI84 support 2 display ?

Part Number: SN65DSI84

HI team,

Can SN65DSI84 support below system structure? 2 display are both 1080p/30fps. If yes, how to do it specifcally? Thanks for the support!

  • Hi Ted,

Is the video stream the same on both displays?

    Regards,

    I.K.

  • Hi IK,

Yes, the video streams are the same on both side. Is it ok?

And I am also curious what if video streams are different, will it work too?

    Thanks

  • Hi Ted,

Actually it should be okay as long as both video streams are the same resolution since both output clocks are derived from the same PLL.

If you want to support 2 displays with the DSI84 then you need to modify how the DSI source presents data to the DSI84. Namely, you will need to modify it so that one video stream is the odd pixels (since odd pixels are output on CHA) and the other video stream is the even pixels (since even pixels are output on CHB).

Assuming the resolution is 1920*1080@30Hz, each LVDS clock frequency will be ~75 MHz. Assuming 24bpp, the required DSI CLK is then 450 MHz, which is within datasheet specifications (reference #7 in this application note for calculations: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slla356/slla356.pdf
