USB-2-MDIO: Use of other company's ethernet phy ic

I try register setting of other company ethernet phy ic (microchip lan8710ai-ezk) using USB-2-MDIO software and MSP-EXP430G2ET or MSP-EXP430F5529LP.

I connected MDC/MDIO/GND signal terminal of MSP-EXP430F5529LP with the phy ic.

I tryed to watch USB-2-MDIO software tool use's guide SNLU197 februay 2016.

But, the signal is not output, do not act correctly.

USB-2-MDIO can use for other company phy ic ?

If it can use, please advice or tell me how to use.

Hi,

We have not tested with non TI PHYs.

Just wondering what specific requirement you have which you can't meet with TI PHY ?

Thank you for your reply.

We use already made ethernet PCB mounted other company PHY.

So, we can not select TI PHY.

But, we want to set registers of the PHY from outside.

We think that MDIO interface is common in spite of company PHY.

For example, USB-2-MDIO only recognize TI PHY ?

What TI Evaluation PHY board USB-2-MDIO can use?

Please tell or advice us cause that USB-2-MDIO do not act other company PHY.

Dear Geet

I confirmed additionally.

I used MSP-EXP430G2ET.

I connected PC is installed USB-2-MDIO with MSP-EXP430G2ET using USB cable.

I flashed MSP430-FLASHER to MSP-EXP430G2ET,

D1 fully illuminated green LED ON OK,D2 fully illuminated red LED ON OK without blinking.

In USB-2-MDIO GUI, com port and baudrate 9600 setting is OK.

Open port is OK, Port status is HW connected Green OK.

I tryed [find PHY ID] and [READ] and [WRITE].

RXD signal of J101 is output OK, I measured osylloscope.

But MDC(P1.4)/MDIO(P1.5) signal is not output.

Please tell me the cause or advice me.

As mentioned earlier, we have not tested it with other PHYs, hence cannot comment.

I comment additionally.

I only used TI's MSP-EXP430G2ET without other company PHY.

I do not connect MSP-EXP430G2ET with other company PHY.

But MDC(P1.4)/MDIO(P1.5) signal of MSP-EXP430G2ET is not output from the terminal pin in measuring oscilloscope .

I attached file, Please see it.

Please tell me advice or what is wrong?

Hi Satoshi-san,

Ensure you have downloaded the right firmware as well. It works and been used by mulitple customers.

try using the Pin 4.2(MDC) and Pin4.1(MDIO).
