DS90UB926Q-Q1: how to configure RGB666

Part Number: DS90UB926Q-Q1

Hi Team,

The cpu my customer used now is only support for output RGB666.

However 926 support RGB888, so customer now only use RGB888[2:7] and found that the display is not very clear.

May I ask how to fix 926 to pair with RGB666 data source?

Which register need to setup and is it possible to fix it by Hi-FRC?

Thanks!

  • Hi Amelie,

You can set up the 926 in 18bit mode through the mode_sel pin, see datasheet extract below.

You can also override this startup configuration through the registers.

Do you know what serializer is used on the other side of the link ?

    Best regards,

    PA

  • hi Pial,

    Thanks for your reply.

I think my description has something wrong.

The signal is RGB888(CPU output)→925→926→RGB666(Another MCU).

Since the video source of CPU is RGB888 but 926 need to output RGB666 to another MCU, 926 input RGB888 but output RGB666,is it possible to achieve?

  • Hi Amelie,

To do that, I believe your customer was using the right technique, connecting the 6 MSb of each R/G/B signals.

What do mean when you write: "the display is not very clear" ?

    Best regards,

    Pial

  • Hello Amelie,

Not sure why you have two threads open for the same question: https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/138/t/886129

From the other thread what you want to use is Adpative HI-FRC Dithering described in 8.3.15. See table 4 in the 926 datasheet for your use case where you are receiving 24 bit RGB888 from the 925 and you want to down-convert to RGB666 (18bit) while smoothing the gradients.

    Best Regards,

    Casey
