DS90UB941AS-Q1: Common PCB layout for display integrated head unit and separated head unit

Part Number: DS90UB941AS-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65DSI83-Q1, SN65DSI84

Hi expert,

My customer have to develop two models of head unit with common PCB.

Their SoC has 4lane DSI output and, LCD has oLDI input and the resolution is 1920x1200,60fps.

For display integrated case, they are going to use SN65DSI83-Q1.

Which is better below case1(branch at DSI) and case2(branch at oLDI)? Or, is there any other good idea?

Case1

Case2

Regards,

  • Hi Atsushi-san,

If you want to use case1 or case 2, you will have stub, echo, and reflection due to the traces splitting. May I know why you need the SN65DSI83-Q1? Unless if you want to use the local display.

  • Hi Aaron-san,

What I want to get an advice from expert is which one has lower risk.

I thought splitting at oLDI side may better because it may have higher signal amplitude, lower signal frequency(especially in Dual Link case by SN65DSI84) or so. So I thought it is an option that I replace 941AS with DSI83+UB947.

    Regards,

  • Hi Atsushi-san,

The data rate of the DSI is running at 2.5 Gbps max whereas oLDI is running at lower speed at ~170MHz. Both can be compromised since the DSI have 4 lanes + clock, and the oLDI have 8 pairs + clock. If the board doesn't have any space constraint. I would split the oLDI device instead of DSI.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions.
