TPS65987D: TPS65987DEVM

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987

Hi TI,

We are presently developing a solution for a USB-PD charger (only) that have a variable power supply source (Li-Ion battery, 12V car battery, AC power supply adapter). Since all the power source have different power level available, we want to adjust whether the current limit for each PDOs or adjust the Source capabilities on the fly. Since the input power will be swapped between these source, we do not want the output VBUS to be resetted to 0V when changing the power supply source.

Is there any way to adjust or modify the PDOs while the TPS65987 is on(without reset)? Can the mode be controlled by GPIO? Should we assign predefined power level to meet the 5, 9 15 and 20V level? Can we use I2C to assign and change the actual Source capabilities while the Sink product is connected?

Here is a use case, our adapter is presently powered by a Li-ion battery 3.7V boosted to 5V with a 3A capabilities. This falls in the PDO 1 mode as a source to power a phone or other sink USB-PD. Then, if our power source is swapped to a 12V battery with 5 A capabilities, we want to change the actual source capabilities to 20V/3A without lost of power. Then, if we come back to the actual power source, we want the USB-PD to go back to its original value.

Thank you!
