We want to program the TPIC8101 by sending a CAN message from our MCU to the TI recommended CAN interface. This will convert the CAN to SPI. We currently have the TPIC8101EVM and an obsolete TMDXR48USB. What TI product should we use for TPIC8101 CAN interface?

Hello,

For a CAN transceiver, I would recommend TCAN1042-Q1. It could be used to convert between the logic level TXD/RXD interface of an MCU's CAN port and a differential CAN bus.

Max, What TI MCU is recommend to interface with the TCAN 1042-Q1? Or is there EVM that has the recommended MCU and TCAN1042-Q together? We want to make the TPI8101 a stand alone CAN device. We assume we will need a MCU.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay as I was out of office the last several days. An example MCU could be the C2000 F2838x series. Any MCU with a CAN port could be used, though, and so there may be other factors to consider in your product selection outside of TCAN1042 connectivity.
