TPS65983B: PD specifications or other that are related to ATX features (ATX firmware enabled with ATX reference design)

Part Number: TPS65983B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65988

Hi,

We are referring to the Apex Creek ATX in our design.

Aside from the Apex Creek ATX reference design document, are there any other specifications or sections of specifications (e.g. in the USB PD spec) that provide more details into the functionality and features of the ATX feature (ATX firmware enabled with ATX reference design)?

  • Hi,

The TPS65983B based Intel TBT reference schematics are designed to work with the specific '83B Firmware Configurations in the Application Configuration GUI. Board level signals and power supply configurations are preset in the Project Configuration for each reference design.

I do not know of additional documentation specific to the Apex Creek ATX design beyond the schematic package.

    Best regards,

    Scott

  • Hi Scott,

Duly noted. There isn't any other available documentation from TI either about the ATX feature or functionality? If so, how was the feature designed into the firmware and reference design?

    Thanks.

    Ken.

  • Hi Ken,

All the Intel TBT reference designs including TPS65983B and the matching '83B Configuration Tool Projects were designed and implemented to work together. Firmware, project, and schematic are intended to work as is without modification.

Other PD Controllers in the product tree such as TPS65988 allow full control and customization.

    Regards,

    Scott

  • Hi Scott,

There would have had to be some reference/document/specification/feature list or etc that was used to design the implement the feature such that the designers could use it without modification?

Would those be Intel/TI confidential information?

    Regards,

    Ken.

  • Hi Ken,

The design requirements belong to Intel to ensure Thunderbolt compatibility and compliance.

    Regards,

    Scott
