DS90UB964-Q1: compatibility with DS90UB913-Q1 and DS90UB953-Q1 (interchangeably)

Hello team,

are both, DS90UB913-Q1 and DS90UB953-Q1 serializers compatible with the DS90UB964-Q1 deserializer hub (interchangeably), or do you recommend some other deserializer hub to work with both 913 and 953?

Thank you

  • Hello Bart,

According to the 964 datasheet, it is only compatible with 913 and 933 serializers.  I would suggest the 960 deserializer as it is compatible with both the 913 and 953 serializers.

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Nick,

thanks for your recommendation. How big of an impact would it be on the software side when switching from 964 to 960 deserializer?

The other aspect is, based on my understanding 953 and 964 will work fine if the video input matches 964's bandwidth - can you check if this is the only reason why 964 does not specify 953 as compatible in the datasheet (bandwidth limitation)? If this would be the case, perhaps 913 and 953 could work interchageably with 964 without any issues (if meeting bandwidth requirement)?

    Regards,
    Bart

  • Bart,

Unfortunately it will not be a drop-in replacement because of the differences in data encoded and being sent over FPD-Link. The 960 is compatible with both CSI and RAW10/12 data formats while the 964 is only compatible with RAW10/12. You can see in the System Examples sections 9.3 and 8.3 in the 964 and 960 datasheets respectively. From a software perspective it will be important to use the backwards compatibility mode in the 960, see section 7.4 of the datasheet.

    Regards,

    Nick
