TUSB9261-Q1: Does it work without external Flash（EEPROM）

Hi,

I'm confused by the answers from the TI support form, it seems the answers are conflicted, so I don't konw if I can direclty use TUSB9261-Q1 to expand an USB to SATA interface without software development including flash burning. and I even don't want to design the SPI interface and EEPROM(Flash) on my schematic, is it possible to realized the function.

the answer from Nicholaus Malone explained that it is not need to burn flash firmware and defaut firmware can be used .

Jorge said that external eeprom must be stored with the firmware.

Hi Yantao,

TUSB9261 needs a EEPROM for normal USB to SATA function, the FW for this must be loaded from external SPI Flash.

TUSB9261 can also burn or write to a external SPI flash with internal boot code using the TUSB926x FlashBurner Utility. This function is different from the standard FW that achieves the USB to SATA function. Internal boot code does not require external memory.

and what is the board “TUSB926x EVM board” in “1.3 Required Equipment” Page5.

is that mean the TUSB9261 DEMO Board?

I am still don't konw how to burning spi flash exactly .

Hi,

This is correct, this document is referring to the TUSB9261 Demonstration & Reference Design board.

This board is connect to the PC over USB. To flash a SPI EEPROM either the attached EEPROM must be erased or not EEPROM is attached. Running the TUSB926x FlashBurner Utility will put TUSB9261 in the mode where is can flash the SPI EEPROM. Follow steps in Chapter 4 of the users guide.
