LVDS or M-LVDS for SPI backplane application?

We are designing a backplane application to connect a master node with up to 10 slave nodes. This will use SPI communication at 40 MHz.

For integrity of the SPI clock and data, we are considering differential communication.

Does it make sense to use LVDS? M-LVDS? Other alternatives/recommendations/thoughts/comments?

The devices used can be used in multidrop applications.

Hello,

Thank you for this reference design. It provides several important insights that we're taking into consideration.

However, it targets EIA/TIA 644 (which is an older standard), lower speeds than the 40 MHz our application requires, and (I think) fewer than the 10 slave nodes we require.

Is there a similar reference design that targets the more updated EIA/TIA-899 M-LVDS standard?

Hi Nathan,

We don't have a different reference design, but the driver used in that reference design (SN65LVDS31) can be used in multidrop applications (reference page 21 of the datasheet).
