TCA9617B: I2C buffer for 1MHz

Part Number: TCA9617B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9617A,

Hi team,

Customer is looking for a I2C buffer which can support 1MHz. I checked the available part  in TI.com and  TCA9617B and TCA9617A look like can support the bandwidth. is it the right part to promote to customer as I2C buffer (no need for level shift)? What's difference between TCA9617A and TCA0617B? Or Do you have other recommended part? Please advised.

Best Regards,

Leroy Song

  • Hey Leroy,

TCA9617A and TCA9617B are both the correct device to promote for 1MHz I2C buffering opportunities.

    "What's difference between TCA9617A and TCA0617B?"

A version has a condition where VccA must be less than or equal to VccB at all times which includes power up sequence. If VccA powers up before VccB, the device will backbias VccB through an ESD cell. The device is expected to operate correctly after the power up sequence on both sides occurs though.

B version fixes this requirement such that either side can power up in any order.

"Do you have other recommended part?"

These are our only 1MHz buffers.

Just to verify, what is the Vcc level?

    Thanks,

    -Bobby

  • Hi Bobby, Thanks for the explanation. The Vcc level would be 3.3V on both side. Let me know if any questions.

    Best Regards,

  • Hey Leroy,

TCA9617B should work for your application.
