My customer would like to use TPS65987 ( 6 pcs)

1. Can we use 1 pc of flash memory for those 6 pcs of TPS65987? or we need 6 pcs?

2. If customer just need power delivery 20V fixed voltage (no USB3.0, /2.0), can we use HW pin strap to set? or do we have default code to support this application?

Would all 6 PD controllers have the same exact configuration?

Also, what type of application is this? I have not heard of a system using 6 PD controllers.

Hi Adam,

this is a card application in server. The function is "power delivery" only, 20V fixed to device. But the connector is type-C.

1. if 6 PD have same setting, is 1 pc of flash OK?

2. if 6 different setting, can we use 1 pc of flash in different memory location?

3. Is there HW pin strap to support this application?

Let me check with the team about the 1 flash solution.

One more question, will the TPS65987D be acting as the power SOURCE or SINK? Or will it be bi-directional?

Hi Alan,

After checking with the team, each PD controller will need its own flash. You cannot use one flash for multiple systems.

However, you could use one of the default configurations built in to the ROM to where you don;t need a flash, depending on the needs for the device.

Would you be able to elaborate more on this system and the requirements for each Type-C port?
