TDP158: Is-it the best IC to do an active HDMI cable?

Part Number: TDP158
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS181,

Hi,

I'm working on an HDMI 2.0 active cable. The current topology is:

HDMI Connectors (2x) => HDMI MUX (TS3DV642A0RUAR) => HDMI ReDriver (TDP158RSBT) => HDMI Connector (1x)

1) Is-it the best TI solution in term of performance for this application?

2) Is the TMDS181 would be a better choice? The TMDS181 has an application about the active cable (not the case for the TDP158).

Thanks,
Denis Alain, Eng.

    TDP158/159 is a DP++ to HDMI redriver/retimer while TMDS181 is a HDMI retimer. With the HDMI connector, I would think this is a DC coupled interface and you should use TMDS181.

    The other thing that needs to be considered is power. We do not have an active cable HDMI 2.0 solution that can work operate solely off HDMI bus power.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi David,

    I suspected also that our choice of chip was not the best option. We will use the TMDS181 instead. We will have an external power supply for this product, so there is no concern about power.

    Thanks for your support,

    Denis.
