I am trying to implement the TUSB4041I USB Hub in a design. I am receiving 2 USB signals from 2 USB ports on a device as well as 1 USB signal from 1 Ethernet/USB bridge. These 3 signals need to go into 1 USB channel on my SOM. I noticed that I can configure the hub using SMBus or an I2C EEPROM. I also noticed that the design example in the datasheet left the I2C/SMBus lines unconnected and did neither. I have an SMBus port on my SOM, but I was hoping to use it elsewhere, and I don’t have any of the voltage rails that I2C EEPROMs typically use on my board already.
If I leave the SMBus/I2C pins unconnected, will the hub still function? Is there a default setting in the hub for an off the shelf part or do I have to request it to be programmed as a custom part when I order it if I don’t connect the I2C/SMBus lines? I would really like to leave those pins unconnected, but I am worried that the part won’t function as desired or will require custom programming.
