TPS65988: What if TI PD chip connect to not complying PD adatper

Part Number: TPS65988

Hi team,

Customer has a question about I PD chip robustness, what if  TI PD chip connects to non PD spec qualified adapter and no discharge circuit on Vbus.

The waveform is from adapter side

What kind of side effect that TI PD chip might meet? We just want to make sure if HardReset occurs, will TI PD IC crashes/hangs/freezes if our adapter’s output voltage doesn’t follow the PD time sequence shown below?  Will users find anything wrong ?

Thanks,

Oliver

  • Hi Oliver,

As long as it does not conflict with our normal PD operating timing, our PD IC will not be abnormal. But it is hard to confirm all the timing behavior of  non PD spec qualified adapter is not conflict with our timing. For example, if the Vbus dischage is super slow, when our IC want to re-start,  the Vbus still higer than 0.8V, it may cause the failure of re-start.

    Best Regards,

    Kevin
