DP83822I: DP83822I Cannot Link Up After Power On

Hi Team,

Our customer is doing DP83822I power on test, and they find some times the device cannot link up successfully after powering on. This phenomenon is a random thing, they test hundreds of times, there're total 64 pcs devices, the issue happens on several ones, and it will disappear after next time power on.

Customer is using DP83822I in 100Mbps MII mode, and force it to operate in Full-Duplex mode with hardware bootstrap, will this cause any issue during power up? Have we seen any similar issue with DP83822I? Could you please give some comments on that?

    Hi Livia,

    I suspect the issue to be in power up sequence. Can you check the following :

    1. Is clock on XI through crystal or external oscillator?

    2. If external oscillator, is the clock stable after the power up of phy or before the power up of phy?

    3. When it does not link-up after power, does resetting the phy using resetn makes it link-up?

    4. Is power up sequence as per the datasheet?

    Hi Vikram,

    Thank you for the quick reply.

    We find that the problem may caused by one of the strap pin connected to CPU, and the state of the strap pins dominant by CPU during power on, which lead to PHY entering wrong state. We'll do some test to confirm this.
