DP83869HM: DP83869HM Fiber connection

Hi team,

My customer is using our DP83869HM, can you pls help me clear about below questions?

1. Is DP83869HM able to connect and support Fiber and Copper at same time?

2.If only connect Fiber Ethernet, how to deal with the related pin of copper PHY? Is is OK to leave them not connect to anything? Is there any potential with Industrial EMC test & Surge Test when leave these Pins not connected?

    Helllo Yunjing,

    869HM can support both fiber and copper at the same time in media converter mode where data will flow between fiber and copper (but not MAC side). Otherwise in fiber only mode : Data will flow between MAC and fiber and in copper only mode : data will flow between MAC and copper.

    In fiber mode, we can leave copper pins floating and in the not connected state it should be ok for EMC tests also. But just to avoid any artifacts of board conection, it will be safest to not put any stub (no PCB trace) on copper pins when in fiber mode.

    So We just need to leave the copper pins not connection and do not put any PCB trace or stubs to them, this should be OK for EMC test. Thank you!
