DP83869HM: DP83869 Configuration

Part Number: DP83869HM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869,

Hi Expert,

I am using DP83869, can you pls help me clear about below questions?

1. I want to use DP83869 in Fiber Ethernet, and I wonder how can I configure DP83869 to RGMII interface?

2. Which LED pin will be suitable to indicate SFP status, LED_0, LED_1 or LED_2? And what software and hardware configuration I need to do?

3. For EVM schmatic, I notice there seems an error, see below picture. Are the labels of XI and XO reversed in the schematic?

Because the external clk need to be connected to DP83869 XI pin, but EVM schematic connect the external clk to DP83869 XO pin.

Thank you

Rachel

  • Hi Rachel,

    Thanks for your questions.

    1. You can find the DP83869 operation mode settings in the datasheet. Strap configuration settings can be found in tables 12, 14, and 15 of the DP83869HM datasheet. You can also enter 100Base-X to RGMII or 1000Base-X to RGMII through register settings in section 9.4.8 and register 0x1DF.

    2. Each LED pin is configurable to indicated the multiple modes of operation or activites. You can review the options under the LED_CFG1 register 0x18. The hardware configuration will depend on an external strap settings you have implemented on the LED pins as described in section 9.5.2.

    3. You are correct, the EVM schematic should show the XI pin mapped to the XI net name. Thank you for bringing that up.

    Regards,

    Justin

  • Hi Justin,

Thanks for your reply and I now get understand about the configuration.

And I have another question about EVM connection, see below picture. I only need to connect a Fiber transceiver, EVM guide said I only need to connect 0R resistor R31,R38,R45,R47 and remove C12,C14,C15,C17, but I wonder is it enough for Fiber transceiver connection? Do I need to connect pull up R34 and pull down R39 and C13 to SGMII_SO_N/SGMII_SI_P nets?

    Thank you

    Rachel

  • Hi Rachel,

Are you planning to use an SFP fiber transceiver, similar to the EVM? If so, you do not need R34, R39, and C13 components on the FX traces.
