DP83867E: DP83867 can't ping with 1000Mbps SGMII mode

Part Number: DP83867E

Hello,

Customer uses the Boardcom IC (which only support fixed 1000Mbps SGMII protocol) to connect DP83867 with 4wire SGMI mode. The application environment is as this: switch(which only support 1000Mbps sgmii)——>phy——>RJ45

By debugging,  the PHY data rate is only 10Mbps, and switch and PHY can't  link,  the related registers are configured as following:

0x01  7949

0x02  2000

0x03  A231

0x04  01E1

0x05  0000

0x06  0064

0x07  2001

0x08  0000

0x09  1300

0x0f  3000

0x10  5C48

0x11  A802

0x12  0000

0x13  0044

0x14  29C7

So the customer likes to confirm if DP83867 supports fixed 1000Mbps SGMII with 4wire mode? Because  the register 0X13 is 0044 which indicates the xGMII error.

Best regards

Kailyn

  • Hi Kailyn,

Thank you for reaching out. I will take time to review your register settings and identify areas to debug.

The DP83867I does support both 4 wire and 6 wire SGMII modes.

    Regards,

    Justin

  • Hello Justin,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Do you have any updates? Or if DP83867 need additional configuration for 4wire RGMII mode?

    Best regards

    Kailyn

  • Hi Kailyn,

Can you provide the strap configuration you are using in your application?

Based on the register settings you shared, the device appears to be in 1000Mbps Full Duplex mode (0x0011 bits 15-12) with Auto-negotiation completed or disabled but no link (0x0011 bits 11-10). How are you able to determine PHY data rate is 10Mbps? Are you forcing Link Good in register 0x0010?

Registers 0x0037, 0x006E, and 0x006F may also help to diagnose the issue, please share these readings when the problem occurs.

Can you confirm that the switch can recover the SGMII clock in 4 wire SGMII mode and 6 wire SGMII mode is not required by the switch?

    Regards,

    Justin
