DP83848J: DP83848 Link LED doesn't blink when ping

Part Number: DP83848J

Hi Team,

My customer is using DP83848N, while DP83848N is not available on ti.com. So, I reach out with DP83848J.

If we can't discuss here, we can communicate offline.

The link of network is built and communication is normal. The problem is that  Link_LED of DP83848N doesn't blink when ping.

Configuration:

1. The LED mode select is mode 2(LED_CFG[0] (bit 5) = 0);

2. pin 33 (CRS/CRS_DV/LED_CFG) is pulled up through a 2.2 kohm resistor.

3. An external CMOS-level 50 MHz ±20 ppm oscillator source connected to pin X1 only (X2 is left open).

4. The LED strap is shown as below (pull up):

Phenomenon:

1. If Ethernet cable is not connected, the LED is OFF;

2. If Ethernet cable is connected, the LED is constant ON, even during ping it is still constant ON, no blink.

If change the the LED strap to pull down, the phenomenon is reversed:

1. If Ethernet cable is not connected, the LED is constant ON;

2. If Ethernet cable is connected, the LED is constant OFF, even during ping it is still constant OFF, no blink.

Could you help explain why this happen and give solution?

thanks a lot.

Best reagrds,

Yang
