HOT-PLUG protection for UART

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC2G17

Hallo expert,

currently, I want to put four UART(3.3V) signal from CPU to a connector which will be facing the hot plug application, just from hardware circuit point of view, how to protect the UART IO on the connector?

I don't think just put some ESD diode is enough. do I need to put the IO driver in the UART signal  to isolate the CPU and Connector, and  then plus the ESD protection circuit .

looking forward to get your expert opinion.
