DP83867CR: WoL mode power consumption

Part Number: DP83867CR

Hello Expert,

I have question for power consumption of DP83867.
We'd like to use this device with WoL packet and power consumption is important point.
I checked datasheet which explained about this device have several mode but I cannot understand what mode support WoL.
So would you tell me about which mode support WoL and power consumption of the mode which support WoL?

Best regards,
Kazuki Kuramochi

  • Hello Kazuki,

The WoL packet detection is not a low power mode itself. The PHY is active and maintains a link with the Link Partner in order to receive the Magic Packet. WoL is supported in all MAC interface modes expect MII Isolate mode.

The DP83867 also supports various low-power modes that can be used to depending on your application, however the WoL feature is available in the normal operation mode of the PHY.

I am pleased to share the following resources to give more information on the low-power modes of the DP83867 and example implementations of WoL.

DP83822 WoL: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/snla261/snla261.pdf (the register addresses for WoL functionality are changed between DP83822 and DP83867 but the implementation is the same).

  • Hello Justin,

Thank you for your kindly explanation.
I understand that we cannot use Sleep mode.
Also I'll refer Electric characteristics's power consumption on datasheet p17 if we need to know the power consumption when we need to support WoL packet.

    Thank you and best regards,
