SN75LVCP600: How far can the SN75LVCP600 be placed before RX?

Part Number: SN75LVCP600
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN75LVCP601

Hello,

the datasheet states that SN75LVCP600 to be placed close to the RX device.

How far can it be placed?  I want to use a SATA cable after the SN75LVCP600 device to the SSD, how long of a cable can I use?

thank you

John

  • Hi John,

The SN75LVCP600 can generate an output waveform with -1.2dB of de-emphasis (DE).  This will limit the length of SATA cable.  The cable attenuation per unit length and SATA Rx capabilities will also factor heavily into the maximum cable drive distance.  For applications which require a longer SATA cable connection, I would recommend using a device like the SN75LVCP601 which can generate up to -4dB of DE.

  • Hi Lee,

Thank you for the quick reply.

I already have a board with SN75LVCP600 present.  I have two set of SATAIII cables  10" (25cm) and 15" (38cm).  Can both be safely used?

For next board design, we will definitely look into SN75LVCP601, thank you for that.

    Thanks

    John

  • Hi John,

Sorry for the delay.  Either set of cables can be used.
